Vampires
The Undead, time has not changed these creatures or their dark nature. Either made by force or by choice, the Vampire feeds upon blood. Their ability to remain in the shadows, to confound the human mind and most of all, to add to their rank is something that has kept them so powerful.
Passing the Virus
This has been argued vehemently over a great many years. While some claim it is through saliva is passed, the blood is where the virus conceals itself and breeds. To infect another, the new host (willing or unwilling) will be bitten, bled to the point of death and then fed from the vampire’s own veins. How long it takes before the virus begins to take root will depend on the physical condition of the new host. Those weaker will experience a shorter transition time while those healthy souls will take hours. This process is quite painful as vitals organs are infected and shut down one by one. Once the transition is completed, a full night and day of rest will be needed before the new vampire rises and answers the call of the hunt and the need to feed.
The saliva of a vampire, as stated before does not carry the virus so a light feeding will not infect a victim. Instead, anticoagulant enzymes replicate in the spit. During a feed the vampire will repeatedly lick and poke at the wound with its tongue, inserting and slathering more and more saliva to help keep the blood flowing.
The blood is what holds the healing properties of a vampire. You cannot be infected if while fighting a vampire and a little blood gets onto you. In fact, if by chance you have any open cuts, even a drop of the vampire’s blood can nearly double the speed of healing. (Again, there is NO infection transferred from this as a copious amount of blood is needed in exchange for the virus to be transferred.)
NOTE: When changed by a Vampire, there is no half vampire half another race. The only allowance we will make to this rule is Dhamphir. Half Vampire, Half Human.
Immortality: Vampires do not age, staying forever young and beautiful. The vampire has no limits on their age cap, however, the older a vampire gets, the more they need to feed in order to remain youthful appearing. The older they get, the more skeletal and withered their appearance becomes.
Rapid Healing: Based on daytime rest, amount of blood consumed and severity of the injury. As a vampire, you are beyond mortality and the terrible afflictions of the mortal condition such as extensive injury. All wounds are subject to rapid of healing. Your bones do not break permanently and your deep wounds and scratches heal. In terms of combat, this means that you can heal two respective combat turns later.
Immune to Poisons: Poisons do not affect the vampire race as their organs are irrelevant. Airborne poisons will not affect a vampire but one injected or absorbed through the skin may have the chance of making the vampire ill (at the GM's Discretion).
Photo Sensitivity: The most potent source of damage to a vampire is sunlight. It does an alarming rate of damage due to hyper-sensitivity from the virus. Symptoms include: Seizures from the bright light hitting the eyes. Skin will then begin to turn red with blisters appearing in moments (or minutes depending on age). The longer a vampire is exposed, the more extensive the damage. Skin will then blacken … literally charring before it begins to crack, smoke and finally burn. In the rare outcome of a survival (either by dragging itself out of the sun or being rescued), the vampire will need an immediate feeding. Length of recovery from such injuries will depend on the severity of the damage done.
Note: The younger the vampire, the slower that it takes them to burn; in game terms, this means that a fledgling vampire will take anywhere between 10-30 minutes to be fully reduced to ash and will need to feed to heal themselves. An older vampire, say in the 500 years or older category will begin burning within a matter of 2-3 minutes in game.
Blinding Light: Bright lights affect a vampire’s vision. Lighting that affect the way a mortal sees may in effect blind a vampire. Bright light situations where mortals are unaffected will affect the vampire. While they will not be blind, they see no better than mortals in these cases. As a precaution, special glasses or eye coverings should be worn in very bright situations.
Additional Conditions
Class Restrictions: Vampires cannot be Clerics, however, they can be Dark Clerics.
Weakness to Silver: There is a weakness against silver. While this metal will not outright kill a vampire, it will however severely weaken them, making them no more powerful than the average human being.
Regular Feedings: A vampire must feed twice a day in order to sustain their full strength (this means, once upon rising and once before seeking their daytime resting place.) Any vampire who feeds only once a day will be subject to a hunger penalty and my only use ½ of their combat strength.
NOTE: Vampires must record and log their feedings (this can be done on the forum boards or sent via e-mail to the Moderators. If you post the feeding on the forum boards, please notify the Mods via mail).
Miscellaneous Information
Holy Items/Relics – The items being used to repel a vampire are only as strong as the faith of the wielder. A deeply religious person with strong convictions in his or her faith can effectively ward off a vampire by flashing a relic or icon. It is not the item but the will of the wielding that makes the vampire flee. An atheist or the like cannot wield this power.
Holy Water – Holy Water can burn a vampire like acid does to a lock or a human, and will hurt them severely, just as any holy item or weapon would.
Physical Food – Food is unable to be digested by the body. Some vampires have been known to partake of small amounts of food, eating just enough to keep up the illusion of appearing human. However, the vampire must evacuate (throw up) the food within 1 hour of consumption or they will become quite ill.
Vampires in Meztrailov are allowed to give birth in the traditional fashion, however, there is a chance that the vampire's mother will not survive. Generally, children are created through the Siring Process of Vampirism, and not just through sex, as Vampires do not produce living seeds to spread their bloodline. However, there has been the recorded case where Vampires are capable of producing a child without the parent dying in the process of birth, but this is rare (Consult the GM on this matter via email, forum question, or simple inquiry on the Facebook page).
