Mounts
The Empire of Meztrailov is filled with people of all races. But they aren’t the only ones in Meztrailov that can be called upon for companion ship and defense of the Empire. There are multiple mounts that can be befriended, or mastered, to give a Citizen that extra boost to life and their fighting prowess. As a mount owner, you not only have a friend but a responsibility. Care and training of your mount will mean the difference between victory and defeat.
Samesaru
The name Samesaru (sohm-ay-sa-roo) literally translates to shark monkey. This large, quadruped simian (standing eight feet tall on hind legs, and five feet tall on all four legs) is a popular choice for mounts due to its jumping ability as well as ferocity in battle. Though common in forested areas, it would be rare to see the Samesaru in a natural setting in such Cities as Rosemerrow, Thanduria, etc. It can be trained to rear on its hind legs and use its front hands to assault, though this is risky for the rider. Its primary form of attack is its sharp teeth and powerful jaw. Due to the similarity in body shape, it can be armored with a slightly modified suit of human armor of any type.

Torahebi
Torahebi (Tor-a-heh-bee) translates into tiger snake, based upon the long, serpentine body, though it is indeed a quadruped. It is a popular mount in Thedas where it is naturally found. They are naturally elusive but can be, and have been, caught and trained. It had a reasonably decent land speed, its low center of gravity, all-terrain capability, and ability to swim make it a versatile creature. (Though, armor is still subject to water damage, physics, etc as a human in armor. A heavily plate armored Torahebi would likely sink.) It does not have a strong natural attack though it can be trained to ram.

Kuma
The Kuma (Koo-mah) is a popular mount due to its attack ability. It is a creature of endurance over speed, though it can move quickly when needed. Looking like the bears of Earth, it can be commonly found in the wild of the forests and woods. Though someone of the desert region could own one, it’s rare to find them even wandering the deserts of Athuras. Its primary attack is its jaw and teeth, and hard swat ability with its paws. It can be trained to rear and grapple, though this tends to not work out well for the rider. Unsaddled the Kuma is a tremendous fighter.

Taurant
The Taurant is a variation of the standard Toro Bravo, or the Spanish Fighting Bull of Earth. It is mostly a mount of endurance, though it can charge quickly. While being found on some farms to help with the crops, the Taurant is still hard to find in a natural setting around Meztrailov. It cannot maintain speed for long periods. It is popular as a war mount due to said ability to charge, and its ability to use its horns to gore mount and rider alike. Many have added variations to its horns, such as attaching razor-edged or serrated blades which would increase the attack ability.

Ginger Kuma
The Ginger Kuma is a larger, more aggressive cousin of the Kuma. They are naturally more territorial, more foul tempered, and that much stronger. However, they are also a little harder to tame, and have a more stubborn streak. Like the Kuma, it is a creature of endurance, able to cover large areas with little rest needed. It is stronger, thus bale to carry more armor, though this would slow it considerably.

Dire Bacrie
The Dire Bacrie (back-ree) is a popular mount among the less civilized races of Athuras. The Bacrie is generally a foul tempered creature, difficult to train properly. When unleashed, it is just as likely to attack its allies as those it charges against causing it to be a mount that requires a heavy hand. It has a low center of gravity, and its primary attack is its upward goring motion with its tusks. They are used to eviscerate horses, or other taller mounts. Against infantry, their main form of attack is their trample ability.

Draft Horse
The Draft Horse, or Clydesdale, is primarily a beast of burden, able to pull heavy loads. It serves as a mount for those who are too large for the standard quarter horse though it is also used as a mount for people who favor endurance over speed. It does not have the flare of its smaller cousins, though it can trample and charge.

Bactrian Camel
The Bactrian Camel is similar to the Draft Horse as it is primarily used as a beast of burden. Known for its incredible endurance and low maintenance, its versatility in terrain, it is mostly seen within dry desert climates. It has no true attack form though it can trample in a charge like any other mounted beast.

Kumashiro
The Kumashiro (koo-mah-shee-ro) is the largest and most dangerous of all its kind. It is primarily indigenous to cold winter climates, though can be trained and acclimated to almost any temperate zone. Its higher intelligence also makes it more dangerous than its more stubborn lesser cousins, and its attack is fierce. These beasts are known to hold grudges and their attack is powerful. Capable of standing at a height of 12 feet on their hind legs, they can carry, as a rider, one of almost any size.

Elephant
These large creatures are known for their strength and endurance, and ability to take damage. They can be trained to attack with both fore feet, as well as gore with their tusks, and trample. Dromedary Camel
The Dromedary Camel is more akin to the Quarter Horse, though it is not known for its ability to attack. As for speed and endurance, it is a close comparison and even holds the edge on endurance. Known to be able to traverse long distances with little to no rest, the Dromedary is a popular mount when strictly traveling is needed.

Crocuta
The Crocuta is a popular mount among the less civilized races, much like the Bacrie. Akin to the hyena of Earth, it is foul tempered and fierce, large enough to carry most humanoids, and just as likely to turn on its master as its opponents, again requiring a heavy hand. Many consider them untamable, which is why most “goodly” races avoid them. They are naturally cruel and vicious beasts, and respond to the same. However, in battle they are just as fierce as any creature they would come up against.

Aqualine Avian
This large, flightless bird is capable of carrying most standard sized humanoids. It can run at great speeds, has good jumping ability, and is able to traverse most terrain types. Though more commonly found in areas of valleys and even some cities, it’s not always best for colder climates. The downside is its relative weakness in combat. It can be trained to bite and jab with its bill, but is not a strong fighter. Aqualine Avians are more useful in getting out of situations than getting into trouble.

Located in the mountains, one would need to travel to Rosemerrow or Thanduria to claim one of these feline beauties. When bonded with a rider it is obedient, and capable of attacking with its paws as well as its elongated fangs. Unleashed, it can grapple, though that would be difficult for the rider to maintain his perch. They are fast, and capable of jumping great height and distance.
