Character Development
Whether you are creating a character from scratch or thrusting an existing one into the new world of which Meztrailov is based in, imagination is key. What kindles your imagination? What makes you believe your own character portrayal, or makes that stupid voice in the back of your head go "Dat wah stoopih!" will rely on you and portraying your character. To say that you have learned all that you will learn or know all that you need to know would mean you are essentially done with role playing, as it is an evolving multi-system that involves logic and thought-out explanations that require time and effort for the reward of the story unfolding as you seek it to.
I'm making a new character but I don't have any inspiration! Where should I start??
This is the first step that you will take, and the first gap you will be required to leap over. Role playing is playing a character that may or may not be similar to you in:
a. Personality
b. Appearance
c. Race
d. Gender
Suppose you're male and want to play a female for example! Think about your character's gender first, as it is the easiest thing to figure out and there's a fifty-fifty chance that you'll be happy with your decision. Now that you've decided on whether they're male or female, think about your purpose behind playing them--what aspect of roleplay do you enjoy, and why? Do you want to play that cocky, dimwitted yet unnaturally street-smart swordsman you saw on TV? What about that mellow, arrow-toting female assassin that watches in the shadows until it's time to make her move? Do you wanna play a peace-loving hippie? What about a new recruit from one of the war-ravaged lands of the kingdom, come to enlist as a knight to serve a higher calling? Maybe a healer who does a little more than slapping a bandage on and kissing the boo-boo? After you've figured out what KIND of character you're interested in, think about the personality your inspiration is based on. Do you want to use all of those traits? What traits, if any, do you think won't apply to your character very well? What flaws will they have? As a person you, yourself, are imperfect and it is what makes you real as a person and therefore certain flaws are required to bring out those life-like qualities in your characters.
I've figured that out, but I don't want to play my character that way. Can I play it this way?
You can play your character any way that you choose so long as it does not (A) involve moding or cross-roleplaying and (B) adheres to the laws of the Meztrailov kingdom. The laws currently in place are listed on the main site, and a recorded log can be sent to the proper authorities of Meztrailov to ensure that they are maintained. Understand that properties can and will be owned and fines can and will be issued should the laws be broken, if not imprisonment as well. Meztrailov is an imagination-inspired world where role-players can mingle and develop their character relations with other characters or evolve their roleplaying skills with other oldbies of the roleplay world and with it also comes the evolution of a constant work-in-progress that Meztrailov is.
Do I have to make a character based off of the racial charters on the site?
You do not have to make a character based off of the racial charters on the site, though the charters exist to allow for a balanced set of strengths and weaknesses that can turn the tide in your character's favor or flip it into the favor of the opposing character. If you should choose to play a character not a part of any existing charter, your character will not receive any buffs OR debuffs, giving your character no greater chance than any other character. Certain debuffing and buffing items can be purchased from the store or earned during quests, items that can deal double damage to weres due to natural weaknesses or inflict heavy harm to vampires, or Seelie/Unseelie. If you should choose a character from the charter, choose wisely. Every charter includes racial buffs that increase a character's chance of victory, but also a set of debuffs that can allow for that strength to be checked; NOTE that THERE IS NO unstoppable character and your character is capable of dying just like any other character. Rezzes are limited to three times per character.
My existing character is from a world more modernized than this. What should I do about that?
Time travel is possible in order to reach Meztrailov, though passage through the Void is commonly a disturbance to the abilities of the traveler on their way through it. Passing through the Void is an explanation as to why a god or a five thousand year old vampire, or an angel, or anything of incredible and unfathomable power, is set automatically to a beginner 2d30. If you wish to play your character's undeniable power out, it is allowed in TBL though advised for otherwise with dice as an ultimate anti-planet attack may result in a scored two points of damage(though hilarity would certain ensure!) that may result in your character being swatted by a higher-leveled cat that deals a crippling forty points of damage and nearly kills your character. Be sensible, but otherwise have fun!
