Alteria: The History
Alteria Lore
The Days of Twilight D’Sci
There has never been much information that has been able to be gathered on the native tribes of Meztrailov, men and women and children who lived off the land. By all recorded accounts the Alterians simply started out as Tribes people, each one representing a different tribe. The Unification Wars of Meztrailov had left them relatively unscathed and as a result, they simply became part of the nation that would be Twilight D’Sci. At first, their life was simple, one of communing with their Totem Animals, and their ancient Goddess.
But soon, life change. The barrier between the living and the dead had been damaged in the days that lead to the healing of the Unification Wars . As time wore on, the Alterians became harassed by the former dead of kinsmen, of their neighbors in other lands. Malignant spirits began torturing the Alterians, and anyone they could come across. The Alterians, in their desperate hour turned to ancient magicks and ancient summoning and offered tribute, their clan’s eternal service to their Goddess in exchange in protection.
No one knows exactly what happened that fateful night. But it is said by the few surviving Elders that the ancient temple of worship burned with a fierce white fire that should have consumed any living being. Instead, the Seven Tribe Leaders walked out, transformed, their bodies rejuvenated, and a single symbol burning upon their foreheads for but a brief moment: The symbol of their goddess. The power spread from them when they spoke, and their people became transformed. And as one, they began to speak to the spirits, guiding the ones home to their rightful places of judgement when needed.
The Alterians changed that day, becoming something more than human. They became able to see the dead naturally, to communicate with them, and to even interact with them. When word spread, many called upon the Alterians. In exchange for being left alone and trade given, the Alterians agreed to aid Twilight D’Sci. The Alterians would become known as Spiritwalkers, their abilities allowing them to traverse the realm of the dead and interact with the spirits to protect them. Those that die in the realm of the dead are commemorated for their sacrifice to the Goddess, and their sacrifice to the land.
As their reputation grew, so to did their abilities as healers. They became renown for producing the Kingdom’s most potent healers. The Alterians had a peace that few others in the Kingdom knew.
Except for one fateful day. After five hundred years of peace, William Softhaven had finally snapped and ordered his Elite Knights to assault the Alterians and burn them to their ground.
They made it to the Village’s Borders.
The Dead and the Alterians moved as one, and overwhelmed the majority of the elite Knighthood in a matter of minutes. Their remains were scattered viciously at the borders of the Gate, in sacrificial tribute to the darker aspect of their Goddess. It was then that the King of Twilight D’Sci truly knew not to try submission with the Alterians any further than he had.
Alteria: The Rebellion
Malice Bereou’s rebellion touched the Spiritwalkers because of the instability in the mortal coil. Because of King Softhaven’s rule, the barrier between the worlds began to weaken again. The spiritual malaise that seemed to grip the people under the cruel rule of the tyrant King seemed to disturb the spirits. So, once more, they took up their mantle. With the signal, a giant fire that burned in the sky for a brief moment, the Alterians took up arms and destroyed malignant spirits and the remaining loyalists to the Softhaven line. Those that did not get out of their way were cut down. The Alterians had always been great healers, but they had always produced strong Warriors, who knew the lands in ways that Softhaven’s people did not. It was with ease that they aided their new King in his uprising and soon took back to their land. But their tragedy was not over…
Alteria: The Exodus
Under the reign of King Malice, Alteria thrived, though not at the start. Due to the rotting bodies and spiritual malaise, not many people had faith in Malice and so the Alterians, and King Malice and one of the greatest Healers in the entirety of the Rim Kingdoms came to aid the Meztrailovians. During the beginning stages the spiritual malaise was banished and under King Malice’s tumultuous time of reign knew prosperity when not engaged in war.
When the Exodus came the Alterians were amongst the first citizens to be allowed to board an airship. When they arrived in Athuras however, and tried to settle into their new lands, they became afflicted by an unknown disease that somehow linked itself to the Void. Thanks to the aid of the Knighthood, an aspiring Knight sent on his sacred quest, the Alterians were able to continue to thrive.
They have since begun to repopulate, and have continued to take their place amongst the ranks of the greatest healers the Empire knows.
